Most of my closest friends....

Most of my closest friends are friends I made in college. And they’re not originally from So Cal, so after graduation, they all moved back to their respective towns/cities/states/countries. Most of them are married with kids now, and I get to be auntie to their kids. I’m grateful that we still have those ties even though we all have moved on to other things. But, I love the fact that whenever I see them again, it’s just easy to get back into our dynamic, and pick up where we left off.

So, there really was a boy. Emphasis on the "WAS". But, it's been over for a while. Actually, I wonder if it ever started at all. But, it was there. He was there. For about 6 months, there was something unspoken. No. We never "dated". Every time he or I brought it up, going out on a date, we never managed to follow through. He gave me enough reason, and showed me enough reason for me to know he was interested. And I really made no qualms about showing him, more so than telling him, that I was, as well. We had a small tiff. I was upset and he actually made efforts to make it up to me. In hindsight, it was cute the way he got flustered. Not that I relished it. ;) Then, we were OK again. But, after that, we just didn't have time to spend with each other anymore, and his life caught up with him. I guess it just wasn't meant to happen.

Wait. Did I just confess? Hahaha Oh my.

Nope. No one will ever find out who the boy is. :)

Incredibly envious that one of my childhood friends is traipsing around Europe right now with her husband and son (my godson). My current circumstances prevent me from traveling. And for someone who’s a bonafide Europhile, it is INCREDIBLY frustrating being unable to go and see Europe, which has been my dream since I-don’t-know-how-long. Actually, I’m much more an Anglophile really, and have been fascinated with England, and the whole of UK since I was a wee lass. I wish to travel with my mom there.

Oh, and my friend is going to Vienna (Austria), which is like “The Sound of Music" country! I am just straight out jealous of my friend at this point. I am sobbing into my hands. LOL

Lord-willing, I will be able to visit Europe in the near future with my mom.
I want to get my voice back in shape again. And singing classically is the best way to do it. My voice was in the best shape it was when I was a Vocal major at Biola University. I got lazy and stopped applying what I learned. Now, my vibrato has slowed down, and I run out of air very quickly. My diaphragm isn’t strong anymore. Waahhhh! I knew Dr. Locke had a valid reason as to why he frowned upon me singing contemporary songs. Haha. He was right. Sigh.

I think I’m going to sing classical songs, and only classical, for a whole month and see how it changes my voice. Hah!
Using a derogatory term, even if it was meant as a joke, is NEVER OK. And it doesn't make you "cool." It makes you seem ignorant.

Just some K-Pop stuff

So, Lee Hyo Ri just released a new single (and MV) called “Bad Girl” (and it’s pretty much a holler at BigBang’s “Bad Boy”, which is dope, btw). And now, 2NE1’s CL is releasing her single (as a solo artist) and it, too, is called “Bad Girl”. I also recall another song of the same title by another K-Pop girl group, I just can’t remember who.

My question is: there are gazillion words in the English language (and even in Hangul, for that matter), could they not come up with a more unique/distinct title for their songs just to differentiate it from one another? Just sayin’.

LOL This is what I’ve noticed - I mindlessly touch, either their face, the side or back of their necks, or hang on to their forearm. It’s something that just happens without me realizing it, until I’ve actually done it. I’m an affectionate person anyway - I like to hug, even if I had just met that person. I’m a hugger. So yeah, tonight, I noticed that I did that to someone without even intentionally doing it. I was talking to someone else, when I just kind of reached over with my right hand to my guy-friend’s neck placed it there while talking. Hahaha! I could get in trouble for doing that, seriously.

Trip Lee Interview: Unashamed Tour 2012

Now, I’m kinda regretting missing this tour when it came through some time last year. I’m gonna have to check it out next time.

Trip Lee, preaching at Summit Church.

Rapper Trip Lee, preaching on Mark 5:1-20 at Summit Church in Raleigh, NC.

Message title: “Lord of the Demons”

Rapper Lecrae shares his testimony of Jesus Christ.

“I had been radically changed. To realize that I had been living a lie; to realize that I was unsatisfied, and I would never be satisfied UNTIL I came to Jesus was so revolutionary for me that I wanted everyone to taste it. I wanted everyone to see how awesome God was.”

“He [God] just loved on me, when I felt like I didn’t deserve love; when I felt unlovable.”

I Am Second - LeCrae's Testimony

Rapper Lecrae’s amazing, powerful testimony on how he was “bought with a price”.
Some quotes from the video that struck me:
“I remember, when I was 17, and a woman asked me, ‘Are you saved?’ I didn’t have any idea what she meant. Saved? What the heck is ‘saved’”

“I see guys who’ve been shot from being in gangs. I see, you know, girls who were extremely promiscuous in the past. I see rappers, I see dancers, I see singers. I see people who came from the same background I came from. And they still embodied who they were, culturally, but, they were ALL IN LOVE WITH JESUS. And I have never seen that before.”

“Somebody said, I was bought with a price….. Somebody thinks I’m significant enough to die for me. Somebody thinks I’m significant enough to climb up this mountain with this cross on His back and take nails on His wrists and His feet, for me.”

“I’ve learned to stay close to my source of significance, to my source of worth. And, uh, it’s God.”

Random thought vomit, re: music/musicians

Seeing all these so-called “musicians” or “singers” getting involved in mindless shenanigans, getting themselves in trouble, doing whatever or whoever the heck they’re doing, it makes me sad for music in general. Makes me appreciate my real musician/artist friends, who pay their dues, playing in cafes, bars, clubs, hole-in-the-walls, writing their own music and diligently continuing to do so, not thinking about what it will get them (money, fame, sex, drugs), but genuinely going out there and just sharing their gift of music to the world. I see them, every night, dragging their own gear on stage, playing their own instruments, singing their own songs that they’ve written – songs that have substance, by the way and not the mindless drivel of getting high, wasted or chasing tail – musicians writing from their heart, and wanting to share it with the world. It’s a shame that these TALENTED people have fallen through the cracks because of an industry that only thinks about making cash, and not really thinking about fostering and showing off TRUE TALENT.

Don’t get me wrong, there are those out in the mainstream, adored by millions/billions of people, enjoying the fame and fortune, who are truly talented and take their craft seriously and are being true artists. Unfortunately, there are only so few of them. The people that gain attention are those who are half as talented (or have none whatsoever), and are in the headlines almost every single day, not for their music, but more for their reckless actions and irresponsibility. Their music, equally as reckless and with little-to-no substance at all. One of the many reasons why I don’t listen to the radio anymore. I seek out undiscovered talent, who have something to say other than, again, getting high, getting wasted, making paper, or chasing tail.
I really want to move back to Toronto this year. ANYTIME this year. Please, Lord.

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 NLT)

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you? God will destroy anyone who destroys this temple. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3:16, 17 NLT)

Sounds: Diligence by Choice37

Choice 37 is a Korean-American producer, and is currently working with YG Entertainment in Seoul.

This album is pretty fly. I love this kinda stuff - jazz fused with hip-hop. Reminds me of Digable Planets, Mos Def or Common. The tracks are pretty ill.

QOTD

A friend tweeted this quote. This is what I hope to do, and soon.

"Living in a foreign country is one of those things that everyone should try at least once. My understanding was that it completed a person, sanding down the rough provincial edges and transforming you into a citizen of the world."

On love and loss.

It's been said, "it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all". That is, until someone else finds that love and reminds you what you have lost.

Oh, how I love You.

Oh, how I love You
You’re everything I want, everything I need and more…
You bring me peace and joy.
Oh, how I love You.
Day by day, You show me how You love me
No matter what I do or say
Day and night, I’m so amazed by Your grace
And how You took my place
You didn’t have to do it
But, You did.
You sacrificed Your life
So I could have mine.
All I can do is say….
Oh, how I love You
You’re everything I want, everything I need and more…
You bring me peace and joy.
Oh, how I love You.

Verse of the day.

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah" - Psalm 46:1-3 ESV

Lydia Paek Ft. Tablo- Suit and Tie (cover)

Love this cover by Lydia Paek (QuestCrew/YG Producer/Songwriter), and Tablo (Korean-Canadian rapper). Her voice is soooo sassy. And Tablo, well, I'm a bit biased. He's a Konuck. LOL

Job-hunt update.

So, yesterday (Tuesday), I went to a dental office to apply for a job. I was referred to them by a former employee, as well as her grandfather who's one of their regular patients. They weren't sure if the place was hiring, but I was just to go there and apply anyway. Basically, I'm just looking for admin or reception work. When I arrived, I introduced myself and told them that I was referred to them. The head orthodontist/owner took a look at my resume and seemed to like what she saw.  She conducted the interview, which quickly turned out to be a chat session, wherein I found that her daughter used to take piano and voice lessons that I used to work at for seven years. I actually know who her daughter is. After our lengthy chat, it turned out that she isn't needing anyone at the moment, but she would love to hire me in about 2 months' time when one of her dental assistants finally goes to nursing school full-time. However, she did mention that one of her friends mentioned earlier that day that they needed a part-time clerk/office worker at the small IT company they own. She quickly called her friend and recommended me right away. After hanging up, she immediately gave me the phone number and told me to contact them right away. She and I did have an agreement though that if she finally has that open position in 2 months' time, she would want to hire me. After I left the dental office, I called the number she had given, but all I got was the voice-mail. So, I just left a message expressing my interest in the job.

This morning, I called again, and was able to talk to the owner of the IT company and she said that the job is only part-time, 10-hours per week, and 2 days out of the week, but only for a couple of months, since I would be taking over for their regular office worker who's apparently going on a medical leave. I told her that I didn't mind as long as I have a job. So, we had set up an interview this coming Friday. At this point, I'll take what I can get. Just to have a job at a time like this would be amazing. I hate being idle. I tend to think too much and waste away my time doing drivel and rubbish. Even if it's just a part-time job, I would be very happy. The job is in Whittier, so it's so much more closer to home than my previous job, which is what I've been praying for. Also, since it's only a 2-month stint, then I could actually be hired at the dental office after all. It works out perfectly! :)

Job situation.

Currently applying for a job. Say a prayer for me, friends. Thank you.

I really need this, Lord. But, Your will be done. Amen.

Today's verse.

Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! --Psalm 96:1-3

This social networking biz.

I have been living on Twitter for the past few weeks now. I've been avoiding Facebook since end of January. I've just been responding to some comments on there and have been posting my daily devotions and Bible passages. Other than that, I don't even look through it anymore. Getting bored with FB, to be honest. But now, I'm overcompensating on Twitter. Hah! It's more fun, though. Little thought-vomits here and there. I could just be completely random and say whatever the heck I want in 140 characters or less. If some people don't enjoy it, they're more than welcome to unfollow. Not like I twisted your arm to follow me in the first place.

Tablo quotes (from his solo album "Fever's End")

Tablo of Epik High
“Robbing someone of their smile and putting it on your face doesn’t make you ‘happy’.” – Tablo

That green-eyed monster.

That green-eyed monster is rearing its ugly head again. Argh.

I refuse to get jealous. I ABSOLUTELY refuse to get jealous, because that shipped has sailed quite a while ago, and I missed it. *groan*

Meanwhile, I have found myself in an all-too-familiar situation wherein I am developing feelings for someone who is unattainable. Yup, me and those unattainables. Story of my life. What else is new?

WHY? *Sits in a corner and mopes*

Dream destination #1 - London, England, U.K.

Ever since I can remember, I've always had this fascination with the U.K. Not sure where that actually came from, but it's definitely one of the many places I would like to travel to, and possibly, Lord-willing, I move to. When I am able to travel, I will definitely take my first trip to London with my mother, of course. I want her to be my traveling companion as long as she's able to (One of the many reasons why I want to move back to Toronto. But I digress.).

First stop: Buckingham Palace
Well, it's just a given that I would visit Buckingham Palace, being that it's a definite tourist-destination. I would like to witness the changing of the guard. Perhaps, try to make one of them laugh. Who knows, maybe get a glimpse of HM Queen Elizabeth II or other royals (ehem.... Harry. lol).

The Tower Bridge
Every time I see this, the children's song "London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down." comes to mind. She's a beaut, ain't she? Especially at night. I want to cross that bridge.

Parliament and "Big Ben"
Ahhh.. good ol' Ben. I would like to meet and see you up close. One day, soon, I hope.

The London Eye
I'd definitely like to take a ride on the Eye, and see London that way. I hear that it takes 30 minutes for it to go all the way around. Ahh.. something to experience, I suppose. It just looks so cool. And it always makes me think of the first Doctor Who episode I've ever seen. The one with Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper, called "Rose". My first introduction to DW.

The Globe Theatre
This is a definite must-visit, for a lover of Shakespeare's work like myself! I would love to see a stage production there. I think it would be a total geek-out for me to be there and just be part of literary history.

Piccadilly Circus

London's West End (Theatre District)
Of course, being a theatre-lover as well, I would have to take in a show or two at London's West End. I HAVE TO.

Notting Hill (Market)
Because of the movie, and a certain "panda" recommended it.  I would love to walk and shop around. And eat at the same restaurant aforementioned panda ate burgers at (oh my, he's so cute. lol).

Harrod's

For some shopping, have to stop by Harrod's. Why not?

This is just barely scratching the surface. Of course, there are other places in and outside of London that I would love to see. I would post about them at another time. But for now, are there another places anyone would recommend for me to see, when I visit London?

You were kicked off American Idol because people didn’t vote for you. Just accept that fact, move on, and do your music. If you think you’re THAT talented, don’t ride on the coat-tails of American Idol. That shipped has sailed for you. MOVE ON.

Feeling a bit like I'm being left behind, as far as having a significant other is concerned. A lot of my friends, who are of the same age, are either married or have a significant other. Most of the little tweens that I was "big sister" to, back in Toronto, are mostly married with kids, or have significant others as well. Last night, while out with co-workers at a Korean BBQ to celebrate a co-worker's birthday, and another co-worker getting a nice fat commission (haha!), one co-worker was expressing her concern that she hasn't been able to get pregnant yet, after being married for 5 years, and she's worried that she won't be able to. But SHE'S ONLY 24!!! How could you worry about not having kids when you're only 24?!?! LOL All that talk made me a bit anxious, as I'm almost at that age when it will really be difficult to have babies. Next month, I will be 38. Not that I'm eager to get married yet. Although, I do have the desire. I'm just wondering when I will meet The One. 10 years ago, I really thought that I had met him. But, it turned out, God had other plans, and it was just not meant to be. I probably should be earnestly praying about this. But, I still have some apprehensions. Perhaps, I'm still not ready? Even at this age, I may still have some reservations about relationships and such. I don't know. It's tough. I'm not desperate enough to just settle for second best. Trusting my God to reveal it in His own time. I wish it would a bit faster, though. LOL

I miss how it used to be between us. Now, it's so awkward. I've told you, I miss you, albeit jokingly. But, it's true. I do miss you. Sigh.
